Seals, Hiking, and "Penguins"...

After leaving Christchurch, we went to the Hanmer Springs on our way up the coast towards Kaikoura. We soaked in the sulfuric springs for a couple of hours while about 950 little kids ran around, unsupervised like rabid chihuahuas. Overall it was a nice experience though. After we finished there, we went and checked into our crappy room in a campground and went to sleep. The next day we got up and walked the Kaikoura Peninsula Loop Walk. It took about four hours, but was well worth it because there were tons of sights to be seen and a hell of a lot of seals. After finishing the hike, we got back to the new hostel and found out that there were supposedly penguins on the hike we had just finished. We (especially Tara) wanted to see some penguins, so we decided to go back and hike half the 15 KM hike again to get to the beach where the "penguins" were. There were no penguins!!! So we got pissed that we hiked the same trail twice and went back to our hostel. Tomorrow we are going to get up and head to Picton to stay one night, we will then catch the ferry to go back to the north island.
