We decided to go from Auckland to Wellington the cheapest way possible, by bus. The bus ride took a grueling 13 hours, but the scenery along the way was great. We got into Wellington around 8 PM and went to our hostel. The days here are much longer, because we are at a much higher latitude and it is nearly December 21. That evening, we had some really crappy dinner from the grocery store, day old Chinese food marked down 50% because of the crustiness. We met some cool people at the hostel, had a couple beers with them and then decided to crash for the night. We hadn't counted on our only alarm clock that we have with us crashing on us, but it did, so we had to sleep with the curtains open so we would wake up on time for our ferry to the south island in the morning. Since I was up anyway at 6:00 AM, and being the nice guy that i am (ha), I let Tara go back to sleep for a few hours while I got our stuff organized. The ferry will take us from Wellington to Picton, where we will pick up our rental car and go to Nelson for a night or two.
