Byron Bay Caravan Park

Byron's Bay is a surfer's paradise along the east coast of Australia. The drive getting here was mostly nice too. We saw a number of Kangaroos along the side of the road trying to stay out of the hot sun. We didn't get a chance to surf here at the bay because the conditions weren't that great and the board rentals are very expensive (also there were about a million Japanese people flailing around in the water). Hopefully the prices won't be so unreasonable as we get farther north. We did a lot of hiking here. We went to see the lighthouse at the top of the hill and then hiked to Australia's easternmost point on the mainland, where the locals come to see the migrating whales. Unfortunately, the whales were not on the move when we were here, but the view was still amazing. Tonight we are going to head into town and see if we can see New Moon at the movie theater because Tara wants to and maybe eat some delicious Mexican food. The food prices (and prices in general) here are ridiculously expensive, so we have been eating mostly PB&Js, Cup O Noodles, and other bread-based concoctions. Also, the cheapest case of beer in Australia costs $40!! So if we can find some cheap food tonight that is not a crappy sandwich, we will be happy. Tomorrow we are going to head north to Brisbane to check out a Koala Park and then keep on going until we get to a nice spot to set up camp, wherever that might be.
On the way to our next spot (Noosa), we stopped at the Lonepine Koala Sanctuary. Despite it being a huge pain in the butt to find, it was one of the coolest animal parks that we have ever been to. We got to hold koalas, hand-feed kangaroos, and see a lot of other kinds of indiginous animals to Australia. Also, there were not many people at the park, so we really got the full experience. Plus, Tara and I were really stoked to get to cuddle a koala and kickit with our kangaroo buddies!
