Hanoi is one of the craziest cities we have ever been to, not as bad as Cairo, but just as many people. There are more mopeds in this city than I thought there were on Earth. So trying to get from one destination to the other in this city is like playing the game Frogger, except we are the frog and there are no lily pads or logs to jump on, so you're pretty much screwed. The prices here cannot be beat though! We thought things were cheap in Thailand, but here it is ridiculously inexpensive. For example, our meals in the restaurants are all home-cooked by Vietnamese locals, they are delicious with fresh ingredients and they only cost us a couple of dollars for a lot of food. And tap beer is about 25 cents per pint... wooohoooo!! The night we got in, we were very hungry so we went out on the street and got some mystery-meat from a nice Vietnamese lady. After we were done eating, I noticed there was a jar of, what looked like pickled rats floating in it.... we thought it would be better not to ask what kind of meat we just ate. I think it was pork, but we'd rather not know. The exchange rate is like 18,000 to 1 so we are multi-millionares here! I feel like I should wear a top-hat and a monocle, but I decided against it.... :) Plus, the city has so many souvenir stands with really cool, mostly quality products that are hand-made and very cheap so it's entertaining to just walk around.
One night we decided to take in a water puppet show, which is one of the popular things to do in Vietnam. It was a great experience, but since we were unable to understand any of the dialogue in the show, it was kind of like watching a lot of really drunk puppets speaking jibberish to each other and limply flailing their arms around. The show was only $2 a person so can't complain there. The next day we got up and our Ha Long Bay excursion. Which turned out to be a blast!
