We arrived in Aswan early this morning after a very interesting journey on a "tourist"  sleeper train. Needless to say this train won't be winning any prizes for accommodation in our book! It goes down something like this: train arrives an hour late, the sleeper cabin is the size of small shoebox, cabin man brings us some mystery fish (which turns out to be chicken) for dinner, train moves very, very fast, has no shocks we think it will derail at least 10 times, and no sleep = No bueno! Then we arrive Aswan our tour guide smiles and says 'Ready for your full day tour?' Are you kidding?? We are not ready! We meet our guide Ashraf, who is amazing, he takes us to see the Egyptian high dam and old dam. This dam controls the Nile and has been very helpful to both upper and lower Egypt's agricultural communities. We then took a small boat over to the Philae Temple, which is a temple that has been relocated to an island due to the high water caused by the building of the high dam. Next we visited the unfinished obelisk and ended with a felucca ride down the Nile. Ashraf then took us to our Nile cruise ship and we slept and slept and slept. After the sweet, sweet sleeping on a bed that didn't feel like the one in The Exorcist, we sailed to Edfu and visited the Kom Ombo Temple, commonly known as the Isis Temple. Then we headed to the Temple built for Horus, the God of protection. It was a a long but interesting first day. Tomorrow we set sail down the Nile headed for Luxor with some stops in between.
