Where I stayed
We then took a boat into the actual town of Santorini. The town is situated on the surrounding rim of the volcano almost all the way around. Amazing!! We had only a couple hours to spend in town so we took a cable car up the side of the volcanic rim to the town. We spent about an hour looking around and taking a few pictures and then walked back down to where the boat was waiting for us to bring us back to the ship. Santorini is one of the most beautiful cities that I have ever seen and possibly the most unique. I would highly recommend to anyone who has the chance to visit here someday.
Today's stop was Santorini, a Greek Island about as far south as the islands reach into the Mediterranean. Santorini is one of the most amazing places that I have ever been. I had no idea what this place actually was until we arrived. It is the world's largest underwater caldera and it is amazing. We started by taking a boat to the lava dome or the center of the caldera. We spent about an hour hiking around and went to the top of the dome. The top was extremely windy. We spent a few minutes looking at the beautiful views and then headed back down. But not before the wind blew a Yankees hat off of a girl's head that was in our group deep down into the cone of this caldera, only to wait for its next eruption and burn with the other garbage in the dome. Yankees suck!! From there we took the boat to a hot spring which is submerged underneath the surface of the Mediterranean and swam in the warm waters of the surrounding area. The hot spring was actually in the ocean, making the water above and around it very warm!!
