Where I stayed
So we rented a car (a small Nissan Micra) and were soon zipping along the winding roads of Santorini. We learned a bit of Greek along the way, which is to say that "Unique Caldera Views - 100 m" actually means "expensive cafe - 100m". But the sun was finally out on that side of the island so we stopped and sipped our expensive fruit juice and enjoyed the view and the rays.
Our journey continued to the south of the island where we found the red beach, which is aptly named for the colour of some of the rocks and the soil in the cliff that overhangs it. We stopped for some scenic pictures and a leisurely walk along the beach to wet our feet
We decided to try the hotel's restaurant for dinner that night and we weren't disappointed. We had some fried cheese (yum, fried cheese) with vegetables and an interesting fava bean concoction to start with. I had the Beef Tagliata and Renata had the "shrimp" and salad. The Beef Tagliata was good, but Renata's shrimp were actually prawns the size of small lobsters and were excellently prepared ... lucky for me she only wanted one of the two. We finished by sharing some Panna Cotta for desert at George's suggestion, which he served to us with a strong Santorini wine (somewhat like port) as compliments of the house. It was my first Panna Cotta and I can't imagine it getting much better. We shortly deluded ourselves into thinking we might take a stroll along the beach ... but decided instead to head straight to bed with nice full bellies.
