Today was a lovely day with my boss and official team. It's a French speaking group and despite the fact that I sometimes do okay in French, I think it would be generous to even call my level 'conversational'.

Basquettes, in Geneva, for example, are probably actually spelled Baskets. In preperation for today my boss explained to the team that we should bring our Baskets. I knew it was an outdoor adventure, and so I was wondering whether he was referring to picnic baskets that we should bring, and I thought, "I really don't have one, never mind know where to get one here..."

After our meeting I tried to clarify with my boss as to whether we should bring something... "Non, non," he said... And so I said, what about basquettes, and his response was, "ah, oui.. a pic of geneva
a pic of geneva
. des basquettes" and he glanced towards his feet.

Which was my clue... Outdoor, walking, I was sure that he was not advising his fundraising team to come in stilettos, but I still checked with my French speaking Canadian colleague, who confirmed that in fact I was to wear trainers/runners (or maybe 'basket'ball shoes?).

But I digress... As I'd been quite stressed about the baskets, I was completely relieved when I learned what I was to wear, completely forgetting that my boss' wife had invited us to dinner after all the (not-so-strenuous) outting. And so for dinner I was decidedly underdressed for meal fit for royalty in a flat that overlooks the pics above...
