I've begun French lessons. I can't decide whether I'm quite pleased with my French to date, or if I think my ability resides nearer atrocious.
Three hours of private lessons and a quick refresh of grade 9 & 10 from mlle. Raygen (in addition to the years of study I did as a child) gets me placed in beginner level three, which I think is terrible for someone who actually enjoyed the subject in school until she actually started to have to do work in it. Indeed, it's appalling that any person schooled in Canada would ever not have a basic grasp on French.
Aside from that, the fact that I'm one of the better students in my class does give me a confidence boost. My teacher, after an hour in her class, thought I should have been placed in a more advanced class, but we discovered that the level 4 courses were filled. And so c'est la vie... A refresher can't possibly harm me. It's been, well, 14 years, and so it would make sense that I might not remember it all.
Although I definitely remember some, so that's cool. And having learned as much Spanish as I did has helped me to understand some of _how_ to learn a (latin?) language. I'm finding that some of what I learned when I was younger now makes far more sense than it did then, which should make it easier to remember. And my comprehension really is pretty alright.
And so it is French. Je dois faire les devoirs.
