Emma leaped and bounded towards us when we got off the bus. It was so exciting to see her. I barely even remember if/what we said to each other, but I know it was _so_ exciting.

And the entire city was there to support our feelings. There were fireworks and explosions on the entire walk back to Valencia.

Deafening is not an exaggeration. At least three times a day I lost hearing in one ear, if not both. Every now and again Em would yell, "RUN!!" and we'd resume our conversation after we'd dodge a 'class three'.

Sometimes she'd point at a helicopter-like piece of fire and say, "those are actually illegal". You don't say A 'class three' explosive? No, rope and a bottle.

.

Fireworks competitions both day and night. Children running around with their hands bandaged up, surely due to a small explosive held onto just a little too long. Parades a few times a day and beautiful effigies standing proud in the streets, waiting to be burned.

I didn't even try to get my bearings with all the winding streets, although Jimmy seemed quite keen to get lost as he wandered out in search of cheese, wine or bus tickets.

There wasn't much sleep to be had. Day or night, in my mind, Emma coined the phrase "madness gone mad", and rarely before had I felt as though that's what I was living.
