Greg kicked my ass at chess and I taught Chris how to play cribbage too well. I got a little pink box with "Will you be my bridesmaid?" written inside. And Emily, Maggie's babe, is delightful. Borcht and Petit Caribou.

2005 was the year of the free t-shirt.

I did go to the US a few times. And I drove most of the way across Canada. but I didn't leave North America in 2005.

When Anna told me that she and Jimmy were going to Colombia for Christmas, I was very excited for them, although I also felt as though I'd been punched in the stomach.

 . Despite my sworn intent to stay in Canada this holiday season, I couldn't help but set silly parameters for myself. If I find a flight to Istanbul for XX dollars between YY dates, I'll go there... if I can fly into Bogota and out of Venezuela for ZZ amount...

Basically I put these things out of my own reach because I wanted to want to be home for Christmas for once. I wanted to see my brother and his wife (home from Poland for two weeks). I was keen to go snowboarding with Em and fam. And I wanted to prove that I could. Do Christmas with my family. Love my roots.

It was really, really nice.
