Recently we have stumbled across an excellent website called GrabOne, definately worth a look if you are in or coming to NZ. It is a site that has super money off deals, a different one every day, sometimes with well over 50% off! We have used the site lots over the last couple of months and had lots of vouchers which needed using up over the holidays.
A trip to Kelly Tarltons Aquarium
Our second visit to the aquarium, our last was back in 2008
A visit to Waiheke Island
This is a place we have been wanting to go to for rather a long time, so when the ferry tickets and car rental came up on GrabOne we 'grabbed' them! We were blessed with tropical weather, which made the island and ocean ever more inviting. Lucy and Dan had their first ocean swim of the Spring, a little nippy, but very refreshing! We drove around the entire island, ate a picnic, consumed tasty wedges and drank coffee at a great cafe overlooking the beach, wandered down the white sandy beaches collecting shells, climbed trees and swam in the waves. A wonderful day which lasted an age, with us catching the second to last ferry back to Auckland City in the darkness.
Sailing on the harbour on an Americas Cup yacht
This experience was a dream come true for Jeff, something which he had been desperate to do on our last visit here in 2008. Prior to the trip, things were looking a little uncertain as children were meant to be a minimum of 10 years old, something we had failed to notice when we booked the vouchers! Luckily the Skipper of the yacht was keen and the weather was kind so the green light was given. What an experience it was out on the harbour, having an opportunity first hand to sail the boat. Lucy and Dan were both confident enough to have a go, much to our delight! The yacht, glided gracefully through the water, banking steeply in both directions, so sometimes we were high up out of the water, and at other times our bottoms were virtually in the water! An experience which intrigued the children no end
The holidays also saw Lucy and Daniel:
Experience bowling for the first time, with expert tuition from James and Alan, while Maureen and I watched on, providing encouragement while drinking coffee!
A visit to Auckland Museum and the Domain climbing yet more trees!
Socialise with their friends in the spar pool as well as a splattering of play dates here and there. Refreshed and ready for term 4 and the hard slog up to Christmas.
Dan also had his second Spring birthday, this time celebrating his sixth birthday, an event which involved our house being over run with a fierce pirate and all his buddies from school.
