We were keen for Grandma and Papa to experience Whatapu after falling in love with the place early in the new year.

It was another gorgeous day, so we set off on one of our little adventures again down the gravel track snaking through the Waitakeres.  The journey through the bush was very different to our last visit.  Last time the flax was in flower and the vegetation looked green and lush, however, after a hot and dry summer shades of green have become shades of brown and the flax flowers have dried to blackened seed pods.

Once on the beach we were able to explore the beach on the Manukau side of the head as it was low tide.  Then the children decided to swim in a sheltered area, before heading up into the sand dunes to roll down to the bottom.

It was a very relaxing experience, wandering along the beach listening to the waves crashing on to the beach and watching the oyster catchers scuttle about their daily business.

After a wonderful couple of hours we headed back towards Titirangi for coffee in a new cafe we just had to try out and then to Toby's for dinner.
