It was definately worth the walk through some beautiful rainforest, we were able to use our recently acquired knowledge to name some of the plants! There were also some amazing Kauri trees, towering above the other vegetation.
We had lunch half way down the falls, under a giant Kauri tree. Dan had a wonderful time throwing leaves into the water and watching them disappear over the rocks and down the waterfalls.
We thought we had reached the bottom, but were wrong
We followed the stream, having to cross it several times over slippery boulders. There were a few near misses!!
We then ascended up on to Mountain Road to the furthest point from our car. Once at this point we thought we had reached the highest point................how wrong we were. We headed off, back in the direction of the car along the Old Coach Road Track. It was quite a steep climb for little people with little legs, Lucy and Daniel were pretty exhausted at this point. It was a case of distracting them and making them think about other things. They took it in turns to have their highs and lows, but bless them both, they dug deep and kept on going climbing up through the bush. The track eventually levelled out, and then both children seemed to acquire more energy from somewhere and were happy to run on ahead. We eventually made it back to the car park, with both Lucy and Daniel having walked nearly 6kms. We were really proud of them :-) Well done guys :-)
We then headed off back to Titirangi for a well earned drink ...........................
