Lots of people have been telling us since our arrival that we should have a trip out to Whatapu and how right they were!

The beach is about 25 minutes from our house and the drive to it is beautiful too :-)  through the New Zealand rainforest, through Huia and Little Huia and then down a twisty gravel road.  But well worth it.

Of all the beaches that we have explored over the last couple of months this has to be our favourite.  The water isn't quite as flat calm as Cornwallis as it is at the mouth of the Manakau, instead it has small rolling waves, which the kids loved.  I think next time we come we will need the board!  You can walk further down the beach and go around the head, where the waves are bigger as it is open sea, the sand seems to go on for ever.  Even the walk to the beach is beautiful, lots of typical New Zealand trees and shrubs and some amazing flowers too.

We will definately be returning here with a picnic some time soon.
