The Santa run was a very last minute affair!  I got a call from Jeff during the day to say that Anna and Ed were running, so after a few minutes on the internet Jeff was running too!  We met him at the fire station and then we headed down to Viaduct Harbour, with absolutely glorious weather.  Once down at the harbour we realised that infact we could all have run, however, due to inappropriate footwear Lucy and I watched while Dan and Daddy ran.  We have said though that next year we will all run!  It was a lovely evening, lots of folk dressed as Santa, messing about with loud Christmas music on in the background.  By entering the race $15 automatically went to charity and you also got your Santa suit thrown in!  A very amazing spectacle I might say!  Dan ran the whole way with Jeff while Amelia and Lydia ran with Anna and Ed - they all did so well.  Lucy found the whole affair very funny and laughed so much watching everyone run.

After the run we all went out for dinner in Viaduct Harbour, which was lovely.  Something we haven't done since arriving in Auckland.  The food was delicious and I even ate scallops!!!  We were definately feeling much more Christmasy after this evening!

On Saturday it was the turn of the Coca Cola Christmas event in the park.  Unfortunately the day starting off wet in Titirangi, although we understand that elsewhere in Auckland was dry!  By the afternoon, it was dry and sunny everywhere and the picnic was packed and ready to go.  We parked the car at the fire station and then walked with the other thousands of folk heading for the Domain.  We had bought a new picnic backpack from Briscoes which was brilliant for this, we even carried chairs - very organised for us!  We set ourselves up near the hospitality tents, the stage in view and the toilets not too far away!  We then had a lovely picnic of fajitas, couscous, roast veg and cakes, as I said before, very organised for us!  We even had wine served in wine glasses!  Later on in the evening Larissa, Brent and the girls joined us, they had been incredibly busy all day moving out of their house ready for their adventure to Oz and watching the girls in their ballet show too!  More and more folk arrived in the park, finding their own spots to set up their picnics.  Then the music started.  The first half was Christmas songs sung by bands and celebs off TV which the kids loved.  Lucy and Dan were having a right good jiggle!  The second half was a number of bands that we had never heard of, but some of them were really good, with a special visit from Santa and his international helpers.  To finish there was a fantastic firework display which once again the kids loved.  Dan was very sensible and had a powernap during the second half so was full of energy for the fireworks and the walk back to the car.  Considering the children didn't go to bed until midnight, they were brilliant, they didn't complain once and walked back to the car without any problems.  Once in the car, however, they crashed, probably dreaming about Santa.  We had a brilliant time, a great evening of entertainment with a great vibe.  So much better than the Santa parade.  We will definately be back again next year!

Lucy and Daniel have now been at school for just over two weeks, unfortunately for them the school has their summer holiday starting at Christmas.  Yet another 7 weeks off school, I originally thought they would be chuffed to have more time off, however, they have had so much fun over the last couple of weeks they didn't want to leave!  Lucy even cried!  On the last evening before they finished we had a Family Night, which was an event in the hall.  Lots of songs/carols as well as the Y6 prize giving, as this is the time of year when they finish and move on to High School.  It was a very friendly affair and Lucy and Daniel enjoyed sharing it with us

We have also included some photos of a stick insect that we found on the deck.  Dan loved it and spent several minutes chatting to it!  Apparently they are very common around here, but are so hard to spot because of all the trees.
