We managed to get the auction brought forward to Friday rather than the 4th November .......... long story!
It's a good job really as for the last few days we have been extremely stressed, thinking about little else, finding it difficult to sleep and eat! Complete role reversal to the UK where we were desperate to sell, now desperate to buy!!
Managing to force the auction forward through a pre-approved bid meant that any interested parties were given 48 hours to get their finances sorted
I can not remember the last time we were so stressed. The situation was probably made far worse by the fact that we only have 2 weeks left in the motel. Larissa, Brent, Maureen and Alan have been so kind, telling us not to worry if it wasn't to work out - we wouldn't be out on the street! However, after being on the road, living out of bags since the begining of August we so need a house to settle down again, and this house is what we are looking for. Never thought I would say that!
It was the most bizzare situation, an auction in the front of an estate agent's office with the door open on to the street! It was all done properly with an auctioneer and as we had forced the auction our bid was the starting bid. You often see on cartoons, character's hearts popping out of their chests - that is exactly what I thought was happening to mine! I think both Jeff and I were ready to wet ourselves!!
No one else put a bid down, luckily for us our tactics had paid off
I strongly believe that the younger your children, the easier it is to move them to another country. Lucy and Daniel are taking it all in their stride, however, Lucy being that bit older, understands much more and listens rather than sleeps when she goes to bed. We have to be extremely careful what we discuss until we know that she is sound asleep! They also both remember Pine View very clearly and compare the houses that they see to their old life. I dread to think how difficult it must be to try to put teenagers through this experience.
After signing all the paperwork we got to meet the owners of the house who seemed to be very happy that we had got it. It was obvious to us that Fay had got real emotional attachment to the house after living in it for 19 years and she seemed to be over the moon that a family with young children had got it. They then took us down to the house to go through a few things with us and it also gave us a chance to sit down and take the whole situation in!
The children in the meantime were jumping around at Larissa's, over the moon that it had all gone our way. We drove back to St Mary's Bay to collect them and to be greeted with champagne. We were sooooooo happy, the whole house was happy for us :-) Long may it last!
The evening was spent eating pizza and icecream to celebrate in Ponsonby. We certainly couldn't think about cooking something and we certainly had lots to celebrate.
Here's to the start of a new beginning..........we can't wait to move in.:-)
We may also end up on Google Earth - drinking coffee in the Hardware Cafe in Titirangi just prior to the auction. Perhaps this was a good omen! We will be looking to see if we appear over the next couple of weeks/months!
