We woke up to a beautiful day, bright blue skies and the sun was shining so we decided to go exploring the area close to the house we would love to settle in.

The car seems to drive itself to Titirangi now without the sat nav!  We called in at the estate agents to pick up the weekly property guides to read through later before setting off past the house towards Huia.

We stopped off at Mill Bay for a picnic lunch and a chance to play on the shell beach and feed the ducks before carrying on to Huia Point.

Driving back down the track towards the main road we found a track signposting a beach.  We all agreed that it would be a great idea to go exploring!  To begin with the track was open and covered in gravel...........great.  Unfortunately, 10 minutes into the walk the gravel stopped and the track was pure mud!  We decided to continue even though I was wearing flip flops and the children had crocs on.  Within a few minutes both Dan and I were on our bottoms.  Dan managed to stand up very quickly so ended up with minimal mud splats on his trousers.  Me on the other hand, ended up sliding a couple of metres down the track, trying hard not to drop the camera which I had just taken out of it's case to take photos!  The kids thought it was hilarious, I did, once I actually managed to stand up and saw the slide I had created with my backside!  My trousers were absolutely caked in mud and I also had mud oozing between my toes - at least half an hour from the car!  Great :-)  Lucy was extremely proud as she managed to stay on her feet for the whole adventure.

Eventually we made it to the beach and the kids had a great time exploring and playing whilst I tried my best to clean off my trousers.  It was a fabulous beach, just a shame that after all that effort the tide was right in!  Never mind we had a great time :-)  The journey back to the car was uneventful thank goodness, although once back at the car I had to use my cardigan on the seat to stop mud going everywhere.

We then headed off further up the coast to Huia and then on to Little Huia, driving along the little road, snaking along the coast right next to the sea.  The road eventually turned into a stone track as we headed up into the mountains.  Once again we felt like we were the only people on earth - not a person in sight.  I just was keeping my fingers crossed that the car wouldn't break down as there was no mobile phone coverage again.............seems to be quite common over here.

The rainforest was incredible, so many species of plants and trees and extremely dense in places and not a house in sight.  We finally arrived at the end of a track in a car park which then led you to a track to the summit of the mountain.  We decided that we had had far too many adventures today already so decided to leave this for the long weekend when Daddy could be an adventurer too!

So instead, we snaked back down the mountainside back to Huia and to the adventure playground for a bit of rough play.  We were desperate to stop in Titirangi for coffee and cake, however, I decided against this, due to the mess on my trousers.  I really did look as though I had had an accident!!

So back to Auckland we drove, back to our motel home.

Roll on the weekend for more adventures :-)
