Where I stayed
Rydges Hideaway Resort
Once in the airport and through the huge queue for customs and the baggage scanning for illegal imports we were through into the arrivals lounge and no transport from the hotel.........slight problem.......we should have arrived yesterday!!!!! I had made a boo boo with the booking and forgot the dateline..................doh!
The staff on the arrivals desk were brilliant and sorted us out a taxi who drove us to the hotel with a guided tour spoken at 100 miles an hour - neither Jeff or I had any idea what he was saying - but the thought was nice! He also liked to drive quite fast and right up behind slow moving vehicles in front
The countryside was much greener than we expected but apparently they had had rain a couple of weeks earlier. We passed lots of cows and horses grazing at the side of the road and lots of roadside stalls selling fruit and vegetables - it definately had a look of Thailand.
What we did learn was that there had been bad floods in the area in January and throughout the journey to the hotel we saw evidence of this - from damaged roads with lots of pot holes to a bridge which had been completely washed away.
On arrival at our hotel we were happy - and even happier when we got to our bungalow - a sea view :-) The pool looked brilliant, as did the restaurant and the children were excited to try it out the following morning.
After dinner, it was an early night - ready for the day ahead.
