Where I stayed
Lucy and Dan loved it though and enjoyed swimming and jumping in. Unfortunately time went too fast and before we knew it, it was time to get out. We had to check out and had a car to collect.
Once the car was sorted we headed off to the bridge, or should I say over the bridge. Another big disappointment - there was so much fog that we couldn't see a thing. Once over the bridge we pulled up at the vantage point, hoping to see something, but still nothing. We decided to walk across part of the bridge to see if the view was any better. So glad we did - we ended up walking over and then back again and as if by magic the fog was gone and the views were magnificent
Happy that we had seen the bridge in beautiful weather we drove off, through the traffic, navigating our way through to Highway 1 towards Santa Cruz and Monterey.
We enjoyed the lovely scenery on the way - a beautiful calm Pacific Ocean and beach after beach of gorgeous white sand. We eventually stopped off in Santa Cruz for dinner. It took quite a while to find the lively part and at first we were very disappointed with what we saw. The whole area looked like a ghost town. However, we didn't give up and eventually we were rewarded with a great downtown area with a laid back surfer vibe and a great Mexican meal!
Just a shame we had booked accomodation in Monterey, otherwise we think we would have stayed in Santa Cruz. With the children safely strapped in the back we headed off for Monterey down Highway 1. We were worried about trying to find our hotel in the dark without sat nav, but we had no problems.....I think luck was on our side as the Highway dropped us into the city at the right place.
It was just a case of lifting sleeping children out of the car, putting pjs on and then putting them to bed. Sleep time :-)
