So here I am. Nepal. What to say, it has been this biggest culture shock of anywhere i've been to, and this is for several reasons. At the moment Nepal is just getting out of some recent troubles and civil unrest owing to some Maoist's knocking on the door of Kathmandu one day with a rather large army, so there are army people everywhere. There are also regular strikes (whole strikes by everyone) and power cuts to save electricity.
Next is the fact that all the villagers from the countryside are running headlong into the cities to escape the Maoists (btw the Maoists are disowned by the Maoist Party in China). And thus the streets are teeming with refugee farmers.
Finally is the compete and utter cultural difference, the city that i'm living in is amazing, there are hindu and buddist temples everywhere each shop has its own god in front of it, there are animal sacrifices going on around every corner. Added to the fact there are cows/ducks/dogs and goats roaming around the streets half dead or humping.
At the moment i'm still taking everything in, Sanju has been showing me around and i'll be going to several other places whilst i'm here.
But at the moment it almost feels like i've stepped into some medeval Indian city. Hopfully i'll get some photos up here so you can see.
