Welcome to Olbia, where the temperature during the winter is around 12-15 degrees celsius. It looks promising after the single-digit temperatures we'd been experiencing in London over the past few weeks (it even managed to snow!). We picked up our rental car and headed into Olbia town. Unfortunately, we arrived after 1pm, which meant that nothing was open (it took us 4 days to adjust to the 9-1, 4-8 hours).
The funniest tale of the trip happened on the first day...we went into a small cafe and ordered some drinks. Larissa ordered a "latte", assuming that it was going to be coffee. The waiter was slightly bemused by this request and became even more so after Larissa insisted on having her latte "with milk", to which the waiter asked if she wanted her latter hot or cold. Little did we know that "latte" is just "milk", so the waiter later emerged with a glass of hot, frothy milk! What made it even funnier was that the small Lonely Planet guide to Italian phrasebook we had specifically warned about ordering just a "latte"!
After our escapades in Olbia we headed to our accommodation in Fertilia, on the other side of the island. This was going to be our base for NYE in Alghero.
