past weekend a friend and I traveled to England. We went to the city of
Birmingham. We picked the location of our travels based on the date and
geography of a concert. Birmingham would not have been my top choice as
my first British experience, but it is what it is. We spoke to a lot of
Native people and all we could get from them is that Birmingham was all
about shopping and the bars. There were endless stores and bars
everywhere. There were a lot of different ethnicities in this city
lot of Muslim and Asian people were in the downtown, which is very
different from the Czech Republic society. The people of the city were
very nice and helpful, opposite of what my stereotype of British people
was. Like I said, one of the main features of Birmingham is its bars.
People were at the bar, 3 beers deep, at eleven in the afternoon. It
was a very care-free, expensive city. The food is horrible and there is
no way around it.
I was excited to come back to
Prague. It is an affordable city that is much more interesting
to explore. There did not seem to be much history in Birmingham, which
is quite the opposite in Prague. I enjoy the public transportation in
Prague as well. The metro did not seem as accessible in Birmingham.
Another reason why I was excited to come back was because we just
recently completed our Czech intensive course and I am ready to use
what I have learned. Next week I travel to France.
