I say my goodbyes and head north to Port Douglas. It's only a short way, but the road is wonderful. It’s a little coastal road that follows the ocean. You have some decent turns on it plus views of mountains and the Coral Sea with the Great Barrier Reef. I go into town, walk around for a little, have a yummy crocodile meat pie, grab fish n chips for lunch, go to the lookout point, and check out 4 mile beach.
I still have some time to kill before my host is done with work. So I ride north to Daintree Village, which was really small. A restaurant or two, a campground, and a couple of croc boat tour companies was all I really saw. Still a nice little village.
I get to my host’s place a bit before him and just hang out on the porch. When he gets home, he asks if I want to come burn some cane fields with him. He works on sugar cane farms here during the Aussie winter and does ski seasons in Japan during their winter. Anyway, I’m definitely in, so I grab my camera, and we head off. After the cane is harvested, they burn what gets left behind. It really lights up quick and looks cool.
After burning a couple of fields, we went to his mates place for a bbq. It was a great time in Queensland’s far north.
