March 18

I wake up at 6am and hit the road towards Lake's Entrance.  About 4 hours later, I'm in Newland’s Arm where my mate’s Sam and Ricky live.  I stayed there on my 1st trip from Melbourne to Sydney, and want to stop back in because was had such a good time.  Ricky and his son are there, but Sam is off on his own trip to Alice Springs in the Red Center then out to the west coast.  Anyway, their place is on Newland’s Arm between Bairnsdale and Lake’s Entrance.  We take the drive out to Lake’s Entrance, which is a really cool spot I somehow missed the 1st time.  There was a bushfire somewhere nearby, so all the views were a bit hazy, but it was all part of the experience.  Ricky said it’s been burning for the last couple of weeks, but he thinks it’s a controlled one.  He "thinks."  Haha.  Perfect example of the laid back "No worries, mate.  She’ll be alright" Aussie attitude.  I love it.

We take a walk around town and see where they are constantly dredging the entrance for the fishing boats to get in and out.  Then we take a walk down the beach and see where they pump the dredging back into the ocean.  It was pretty cool.  After, we grab some fish and chips in town and head back to Ricky’s place.  Watch a cool movie called “The Jacket.”  Then head to bed early.

March 19

Ricky and I head into the bush to shoot some rifles for the morning.  In the afternoon, we head to another spot in the bush where we see a group of about 20 roos hoping along.  It was awesome.  Afterwards, I take a quick shower and head up to Albury, where I spent Christmas.  I take the great Alpine road again.  Hundreds of kms of twisty mountain roads.  At one point I saw a bushfire off in the distance.  It was in the general direction I was heading, but the road I was on didn’t go through it.  I was a little disappointed.  Haha.

I get into Albury and phone Geoff’s sons, Chris and Alex.  Chris is staying in, but I meet Alex and his girl out.  They offer me the spare bed in Alex’s house, which I gladly accept.  I was just going to sleep in the car.  They are staying in, but I head out for a drink at the Star, and another at Paddy’s.  Then I head home and hit the sack after a very long day.
