Arequipa was where our flight took us, it was the second biggest city in Peru. With all it's white buildings and the 6,000m volcanoes of Chachani, El Misti and Picchu Picchu at a backdrop it certainly made a beautiful city. From here we booked a 2 day trip to the Colca Canyon, the deepest canyon in the world.
Day one took us back to the high altiplano where we could see snow capped volcanoes on the horizon in every direction we looked. By late afternoon we had arrived in the village of Chivay, luckily for us it was situated next to some more hot springs, so that evening after a dip in the baths we went to a local Pena (a restaurant which plays traditional Andean music).
The next morning we got up early and drove for about 2 hours to Cruz Del Condor. It was from this point we were able to see down the canyon at one of it's deepest points, but the highlight for me were the many condors we could see circling majestically below. Around the canyon we could also see lots of 1000 year old agricultural terracing which along with it's crops of many different colours made a fantastic sight.
