Puerto Natales was next on the itinerary. From here I wanted to visit the national park, Torres Del Paine, one of the main reasons for my visit to Patagonia. It is famous for 3 huge towers of rock which reach up over 3000M (10000ft) into the sky. So it was time to say good bye to the Finish girl, as she didn`t want to do the 8 day hike. I soon met an American from Chicago and after chatting with him for about 5 minutes we decided to start trekking together. I thought the guy was about 30, he had a big bushy beard which made him look kind of old. It turns out he was a 22 year old college graduate, who amongst other things has trekked 50 miles over the Chilean/Argentinian border at a highly illegal place to save himself $50 in bus fares and park entry fees. Andrew, as he was called reminded me a bit of Chris McCandless from the book 'Into the Wild`. Have any of you guys have read it? As you can imagine his personality made him an interesting and fun person to hike with.
