I arrived in Puerto Montt at 12.30am, managed to wake up some Chilean lady and in my unbroken Spanish managed to persuade her to give me a bed, I think she was happy for the extra money!

Puerto Montt to Punta Arenas. A Chilean couple offered to give me their seats so I could sit next to the window, so who was I to refuse their generosity. The views of the snow covered Patagonian Andes from the Pacific were absolutely fantastic. Once we started the decent into Punta Arenas the landscape changed to a flat barren wasteland. Punta Arenas wasn't much to write home about, but I managed to hook up with a Laplander from Finland, Berit, and take a bus out to see a Jackass penguin colony. The penguins were extremely interesting to watch as they waddled alone in lines one after another, cleaning themselves and one another.
