Planning the trip
Entry 1 of 59 | show all | print this entry |
We decided that if we were ever going to really explore South America, now was the time. We started making our plans and put together an itinerary of all the key places we wanted to visit and researched when would be the best time to visit. Because South America´s so large and so varied, we found it quite hard to get everything to work together into one trip. In the end we think we´ve come up with something that looks quite good.
Our planned itinerary, if everything goes according to plan, is:
Spain - Madrid (quick stopover to checkout a city we´ve always wanted to visit) Chile - Santiago, Puerto Varas, Navimag cruise, Torres del Paine, Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego Antarctica - (if we can get a last minute cancellation) Argentina - Perito Moreno, Bariloche, Mendoza, Buenos Aires, Iguazu Brazil - Rio de Janeiro, Bahia coast, Amazon Ecuador - Quito, Galapagos, Cuenta Peru - Huaraz, Lima, Pisco, Nazca, Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Cuzco, Inca Trek, Machu Pichhu, Lake Titicaca Bolivia - La Paz, Potosi, Salar de Uyuni (political situation permitting!) Chile - Atacama desert, Santiago
So you can see, this may be a bit ambitious - wish us luck.
We´ve already booked some of the trip (ie Amazon lodge, Galapagos cruise, Inca Trek) but we´ve deliberately left the rest open so that we can see how we´re going and can do whatever we feel like at the time.
Although we´re starting this blog in the UK, we normally live in (and call home) Australia. We´ve spent the last 9 months in Europe catching up with our families in the UK who we left over 20 years ago to start our new lives in New Zealand and then Australia.
