Ancient Cities - The next day we hired a taxi for the day and went to see a number of ancient cities around Mandalay.  The first stop of the day was Sagaing Hill, and the views of all the Payas and Stupas from the top.  As you can see the whole landscape is dotted with them.

From Sagaing we went to Inwa, which was the capital of the Burmese kingdom for almost 400 years.  The whole area is cut off from roads by rivers and canals, so the only way to get around was by horse and cart.  We visited a number of ruins and stopped at local houses along the way.

From Inwa we travelled to the final stop of the day, Amarapur, which was Myanmars penultimate royal capital.  The area is famous for the 150 year old teak bridge that that goes across Taungthaman Lake to Amarapur.  The bridge is 1.2km along and provides great people watching opportunities.
