Mandalay - From Yangon I took a 16 hr overnight "express" bus to Mandalay.  I met a couple of guys from Sweden and England who I travelled around with for a while.  Independent travellers are not that common here.  Again as most places in Myanmar there were a number of Payas and religious sites to see.  Firstly we went to see the Mahamuni budda which a few centuries ago was just a bronze budda.  Over the years thousands of people has stuck gold leaf onto it, and the gold leaf is now 15cm deep.  The gold leaf cost 50p for a few sheets.

We also visited Kuthodaw Paya which has 729 marble slabs of Budda readings and the teak monastery, before climbing Mandalay hill for the sunset.
