Route: Calangute - Panjim - Old Goa - Palolem
I'm writing this in about 2 months retrospect so i'm going to keep it breif: We arrived in Goa on the train from Mumbai without a clue where to head for... we stuck a pin in a map and ended up going to Calangute. After one night in 'The Red Lion Pub' with a bunch of load northern English tourists we decided it was rubbish and moved on to Panjim and Old Goa to see the cultural side of things, which is well worth a day or two of anyones time. Palolem is great, anyone who's thinking of going to Goa should boy cot the big resorts and head south to Palolem. Is cheap (very cheap), there's great sea food, picture perfect beach, descent nightlife and none of the ignorant foreigners that frequent some of the larger resorts.
The only problem in Palolem is the Indian tourists. The locals are lovely but the national tourists are mainly groups of young men who come here to stare at the scantily clad western women. They cant take their drink and they stagger around the beach totally pissed at midday slinging empty beer bottles in the otherwise perfectly clean water. Just like all the other Indians i have met, they litter with an absolute disregard for the cleanliness of their own country. But don't be put off, these idiots can be avoided and there's a large and diverse travellers community in Palolem, loads of nice people to meet and drink Feni with. Hooray Palolem!
