... a bicycle! :-D

I got it yesterday, and after 3 days here in Changsha, I'm ready to start my bike trip through Hunan province! I'll leave in 1 hour (hopefully...), heading up to the west to Fenghuang, a small town 550km further. I hope to get there in 1 week. This morning I bought a chinese map of the province, and also I still get my compass if needed. :-)

I arrived in Changsha (2 millions people) on Saturday morning from Shanghai, after a 15h night train journey on hard seat. Cheapest ticket, as always hehe... I slept my 2 last nights in Shanghai in one of the couches of my hostel's bar, I had booked 4 nights only, and the place was fully booked (world expo). I noticed the couches were quite comfortable and I didn't want to try to find another place anyway, as accomodation in Shanghai is very expensive compared to the rest of China. So I stayed 2 more nights for free. :-) I also did some couchsurfing when I arrived in the city (this was my 2nd experience, the 1st was in Suzhou, just before coming to Shanghai), and it was really nice. Chinese people are very generous. I stayed in a small flat in a typical building, the funny thing was that all kitchens were located in the hallway! Not so usual for us hehe... So in total I stayed 1 week in Shanghai.

Last week was my 25th birthday, and I tried to make it to spend it in Shanghai, I thought this could be very cool! And it was... :-) Many people asked me how did I celebrate it. I celebrated it twice actually hehe! On Monday (13th), we started to drink some beers at the hostel with a few people, later I tried to motivate them to move to a club. Successfully we all left, 10 of us (english, german, austrian and chilian people!), we got 3 cabs and ended up in a very cool underground bar with dubstep and drum&bass music. A few people there, good atmosphere, the french DJ told me it was a great night, the Monday before he mixed for 3 people only! I tried to get some shots at the bar for free, not so easy than expected but I received a few ones though! We stayed to closing, around 4am. A nice night. :-)
The next day (so my real birthday hehe), I got up late, and just spend all day playing pool and PES on Playsatation haha. And I got this email from a couple of friends I met in Beijing 2 weeks before. A belgian guy travelling with his french girlfriend, they are doing the same trip than me, heading up to Australia, and then South America! :-) I had told them it would be great if they could be in Shanghai for my birthday, and so in this email they were saying they just arrived! They managed to be in Shanghai for the 14th and I found this so cool! :-) We met on the evening at my hostel (after I've been offered my dinner from the waitress :-), they brought some belgian beers, and then we moved the 3 of us to an electro-house party I had found. Berliner DJ... good music of course, small underground bar, dark atmosphere, and me dancing all night long... Great night again! :-)

So no cake and no candles this year, but very nice birthday, even if I wish I could have spend it with my family and my friends...

Well I should leave now, it's already 15.00... my plan was to leave at 13.00 hum hum... :-)

By the way, yesterday I ate the best noodles I ever ate! I bought it in the street, 1min walk from my hostel, the guy had a "I love China" t-shirt and cooked it in live, in a wok, in front of me... 4 yuan (0,50 eurocents)!

See you next time! ;-)
