Driving the Great Ocean Road

We stopped for some lunch at the town of Lorne, where we had a lovely sandwich and a shake, and swapped drivers over, before continuing along the road to our destination for the day, Apolo Bay. There we found a really quaint hostel, in an old house, so we stopped and booked ourselves in. As we had a bit of time in the afternoon, we asked if they could advise of a walk to do, the lady suggested going to some waterfalls nearby, so we set off . It was not too far only about 12kms, and then a 40 mins walk. The waterfalls were good, though the water was very cold. The local area felt very peaceful, almost cut off from the rest of the world, small farms with cows grazing in the fields , it was truely rural Australia. On our return, we picked up a fish and chip dinner, Daniella had flake, and I had barramundi, I think the flake was better. In the evening, we went to bed early after afew games of chess, our room was warm and cosy due to an electric heater and bankets. The next morning, we had a lot of driving to do in order to complete the Great ocean Rd, and then drive inland to Halls Gap.
So we set off on our 3 day trip to the Great Ocean Road and the Grampians. It was the first time that the pair of us would be driving for 8 months, and the hire car company only had automatic cars, which in the end turned out great as the car we hired, a Hyundai Getz, was really easy to drive. So we set off from Melbourne along the highway towards the coast. to explain a little about the Great Ocean Road, it is the coast road to the southwest of Melbourne, and is very picturesque along certain sections. The first couple of hours driving in order to reach the coast was pretty mundane, but as soon as we hit the coast at the town of Torquay, we saw some lovely views, it seemed to be after we turned every corner, there was another great view to be seen. It was a bit distracting as the person who was driving had to concentrate on the winding road. Also we had to make sure we did not drive to fast in order to avoid getting any speeding tickets!
