The commute was better today since it is not the dreaded Monday after a long holiday weekend. At least I got there on time. Got my coffee (or two) for the day and fired up my computer. My two other team mates came later. Lawson and I were the only ones with internet connection. I felt special today. I looked at a PP slide that Kim sent us and drew up a rough outline of our paper. We, as a team, quickly agreed on a time line and deadlines for each section. Lawson and Pete will work together on Market Overview and I volunteered to do Competitive Landscape. Maybe a bad choice. There are no research on airport retail logistics at all! To make it harder, I have to be more specific--focus on only the Nordic region. Oh well. I will find a way somehow.
A disagreement came up about weekend work. hhmmm.... I admit that I will not be a happy camper if I was asked to work weekends. We shall see what happens. I guess this is motivation for me to meet deadlines and work harder.
Pete and Lawson told me an interesting tidbit about swedes--women here pick up men and not vice versa. Whoa, this is certainly different! Totally opposite from what I am used to, which is the asian way of men going above and beyond. Oh well. I guess the American way of dating is the happy medium. :)
Since Pete did not have internet, we headed back early and worked more in our apts where we have good wireless internet. I was glad to miss the rush hour crowd and I did not complaint a bit about leaving early. We hope that Kenneth will return from Spain tomorrow and help us get connected. I have some stuff to print out and can't wait to get my research moving forward.
I decided to work while watching the sun set on the patio up on the apartment building. Such a scenic view and I even met two awesome swedes there later that night. We had a great conversation on politics, government, culture, etc. It was great. To my relief, Dr Sullivan was wrong about swedes not liking asians. They claim that they have no issues with asians and there are a lot of them here. But they did confirm the animosity between swedes and eastern europeans. They don't like them taking their jobs away. They explained that the job market is slow in Sweden. No wonder they don't like the eastern europeans. I really like them and their honesty. Within minutes I also found out that they do not care for American foreign policy but generally like Americans. I found them to be very well verse on various cultures, countries, etc. I wonder if they are typical swedes. But all of the ones I have met so far have been like that too. Makes me wonder.
In general, I have liked almost everything here. The food, people, cleanliness, facility, work, etc. I don't like that men wear tight pants here. I don't know about that... But I guess I will get used to it. And the prices are crazy here. But there are always ways to get cheaper things. I just have to work harder... And I don't get bothered by random guys on the streets that much. It happens but not that often. That's nice.
