So we've arrived. Finally. Two flights, one of which we didn't even make it past the first glass of fizz before succumbing to some much needed shut eye. 
'WHAT!' I hear you cry. 'One glass that's pathetic!'
But I'm afraid even the most hardcore of bubble guzzlers has to rest sometimes. Well at least until we arrived at the hotel and had a champagne breakfast at 6.30am...

So, after a couple of hours sleep in our ridiculously comfortable beds, we dragged ourselves into the shower, and then down to the beautiful swimming pool that belongs to the Mandarin Oriental. Overlooking the marina at Singapore it is the perfect place to sit in the sunshine, or lounge like a Maharajah in Dad's case, and indulge in a few cold beverages whilst taking in the view. Of course it always helps when you remember where you are, which in Dad's case is proving to be a problem...

'Oh you get a lovely view of Hong Kong from here don' t you?'

'No Dad, that's Singapore...'

'Oh crap, yep that's what I meant. B****cks. Where am I again?'

Anyway, after a few hours of lounging in the sunshine, it was time to venture out and show Dad the sights. First stop Raffles for a Singapore Sling. It took us about 2 days to get served as the place was packed, obviously with other tourists ordering overpriced syrupy drinks much like ourselves. And was it worth it? Well in a word, no. Aside from the wait, the peanuts were off, and the band was, well, just not to our tastes. Eighties funk sound, complete with synthesizer, while the vocalists with heavy Asian accents forgot the lyrics to The Beatles and Michael Jackson. Needless to say, we only had the one here...

Next it was time to head to Clarke Quay and take in the local nightlife. Or at least find a bar that was showing the football and serving Guinness. Then a short hop in a much needed air conditioned cab to the local food market to sample the Singaporean cuisine. Satay, curry, roti, flat chicken and of course the local beer, Tiger. It was so good we forgot to take any photos!! (By this point our resident snapper was all wobbly-eyed anyway and probably didn't know which end of a lens to look down...)

With a very full belly it was time for a few hours snooze before finishing our tour of Singapore with a trip up to the top of the very high (57 floors) Marina Bay Sands hotel. And let's just say that turned into much more of an adventure than we anticipated...but of course that's another story!
