We left Ayr and headed back North 500km. We made a quick trip to Cairns to get any info we needed and went straight towards to famous world heritage rainforest.

We spent two nights in a pocket called Kurranda which is right outside Cairns. It is a beautiful village nestled within rainforest. It was quite touristy with it being so close to Cairns but beautiful all the same. It was quite weird camping - even though we were in a campsite the noises in the trees were so different to anywhere else we had stayed. The town had great markets which we spent a long time just wandering around really enjoying the atmosphere.

From Kurranda we went further North, crossing over the Daintree river by a small car ferry. Once on the other side you are in Cape Tribulation. Cape Tribulation is where two world heritage listed areas (the daintree rainforest and the great barrier reef) meet. It was a bit of a disappointment to us but just because we expected a bit of a jungle experience. (us being nieve - watching too much Im a celebrity!!). Due to the rainforest being so protected the only walks you can go on are on boardwalks where of course there are also bus loads of tourists. Needless to say we didn't get to see the snakes we have been searching for all the way around Australia.

We spent two nights camping in a national park campsite just outside the village of Cape Trib, called Noah's Beach. It was a great spot where we had regular visits from the large monitor lizards 'goannas'. This was where we spent John's birthday and enjoyed a picnic style dinner with champagne. A really enjoyable evening.

As beautiful as the area is there isn't a great deal to do - so once all the board walks has been done we headed south back across the river to Port Douglas.
