After a quick trip back to Monkey Mia to say the final farewells we headed up the coast. It really is a long way between towns up here - so after leaving Monkey Mia at 11am we reached Coral Bay at about 5pm. It was a bit of a battle getting into a campsite but they managed to sqeeze us in (maybe we should have booked!)

Coral bay and Exmouth are situated on the coral coast of Western Australia. We really wanted to go there as there is a reef (the Ningaloo reef) down the coast line which you can actually swim out to. The weather was nice, although a bit breezy and the water was freezing. We spent 3 days in coral bay and by the third day we had sussed out the best spot to swim in and the best time of day to go (it gets more windy as the day goes on).

It actually took me three days to build up the courage to swim beyond the shallows and actually amoungst the coral Cold_Jo

. I am so glad I did as it was beautiful. The colours wern't all that great but there was so much marine life.

Day four took us to Exmouth for a night. We used Exmouth as a base and drove into the national park along the coast. We went snorkelling in a place called Turquoise Bay and spotted humpback whales whilst watching the sunset at a lighthouse. Sadley the photos of the whales are not good as they were so far away - there were binoculars at the lighthouse which enabled us to see them.

Day five saw us loading the car ready for two days worth of driving onto Broom - this driving is going to get pretty boring by the time we get to the East coast!!!!
