The schedule I had read in the hotel that morning told me the ferry left for Nova Scotia at 1 PM. I had to get there in time because the next one wasn't until 3 PM which would have put me 2 hours behind schedule. I was too far gone from the Confederation Bridge to turn around and make it back into New Brunswick on schedule, so the ferry was my only option
It would be the first time on a ferry for Hogzilla and I, and I was excited. Transit time to Caribou, Nova Scotia was listed as 75 minutes, which meant that I would probably have to tie the bike down so that I could have time to check out the passenger lounge and the scenery from the water. I was eager to see how the crew would tie the bike in and whether they would keep motorcycles separate. The cashier at the booth pointed me to a special lane for motorcycles to wait for the ferry's arrival and told me I would be going onto the ferry first and probably getting off first in Nova Scotia. Very cool!
So far so good, my gamble to include a short run on PEI was paying off. I would have to move pretty quickly out of Nova Scotia in order to make it to my hotel reservation in Frederickton in a reasonable amount of time. The ride from Caribou, NS to Frederickton was a little over 400 kilometers, or about 4 hours. Assuming the ferry docked in Caribou a little after 2 PM I would be in Frederickton by 7 or 8 PM...late, but not too late and still on schedule for the ride to Montreal the next day.
