Waking up on Tuesday morning in the motel in Calais, I am concerned.  I'm not feeling 100% but I'm not sure why.  I chalk it up to being tired from riding hard Sunday and Monday and decide to push on to Halifax.  I'm excited to get to Halifax and it will be an easy ride, only 325 miles. I can do that before lunch!

My plans are to stay at the Best Western Chocolate Lake Tuesday and Wednesday night, then start back to Detroit via Montreal and Ottawa on Thursday.  I check out of the motel, gas up and head down the street through town to the border crossing to St. Stephen.

Crossing the border is uneventful.  The border guard looks like he is 16 years old and he is dressed like the end of the world is nigh...he has the full rig on:  body armor, the whole bit. I'm the only one crossing at that time of the morning.  I'm smiling while I sit there because the bridge across the Saint Croix is all of 50 yards long and sitting at the Customs booth I am even closer than that to the streets in St. Stephen.  Totally different than the crossings in Detroit, Port Huron and Buffalo!

I have a nice chat with the Customs guy about where I'm from, what I'm doing, why I'm doing it, etc and then he lets me go.  I roll onto a quaint little street in St. Stephen and look for a place to park for a bit so that I can safely stow my passport and get my gloves and stuff situated for the ride to Halifax.  I find a parking lot behind a bank and while I'm there I take a pic or two of Calais from the Canadian side before continuing on through St. Stephen to finally start my trip on Canada Route 1.

The goal is Halifax via the Trans-Canada Highway (Canada Route 2) and Moncton, NB.  Halifax, here I come!
