We awoke at 0630. After a swim and some breakfast we started on the walk up and out of the Canyon.  This time we used the Bright Angel Trail.  It was slow going because Cathy was not good at uphill.  And it got worse as the sun rose higher in the sky and heated up everything and everybody.

At Garden Creek we stopped for a well deserved cool off in the water cascading down through the rocks.  It was a very refreshing rest stop.

At Indian Village, an abandoned settlement, we had to wait for a passing mule train: we envied the people sitting comfortably, relatively speaking, while the poor old mules did all the hard work.

Bob and Ray went on ahead, but stopped after an hour and a half to eat some rice, rest, and wait for John who had stopped to talk to some Texans on the trail.

After 8 hours of uphill walking and a final sprint to the top we were out of the canyon and back on the South Rim.  We were pretty much all in.  We had just sufficient energy to shower, eat, and fall asleep.

Walking into the Grand Canyon, sleeping under the stars next to the Colorado River, and then walking back up to the South Rim has remained as a truly great and unforgettable experience.
