(New Haven CT, Tuesday, December 26, 2006)-The holiday kicks continued the day after Christmas when the four of us packed into the rent-a-car and drove east to visit my sister Kathy and her peoples in New Haven CT. We're pretty old now as brothers and sisters go, and every chance I get to spend some time with her is deeply treasured.

Sunny and B are geeked about staying a couple of days with Sunny's cousin Sarhanna and her two genius children, Lamar and N'Deisha. Dr Dorothy and I have virtually our own suite at my sister's place, with fast access to cyberspace and also access to my sister's fine CD collection of classic recordings by Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins as well as the works of her former husband, the brilliant trumpet player, composer and music theorist now known as Wadada Leo Smith.

My sister's daughters Sarhanna and Kashalla have grown into beautiful, fiercely intelligent women who are a joy to be with. Kashalla has all of us over to dinner at her place one night, and Sarhanna takes us out to lunch with Lamar and N'Deisha. I couldn't've had a better time than this intimate family setting, like Eddie Bo would say, "wrapped in the bosoms of your love."
