In Transit: Baltimore > NYC > Staten Island
Entry 9 of 9 | show all | print this entry |
Dorothy had to leave on Friday afternoon due to a family emergency in New York City, but I was able to remain and enjoy the Roots Music Festival at the County Farm Museum, where Common Ground staff and friends performed on three stages Saturday and Sunday afternoons and Richie Havens came down to headline the event. When Monday came I caught a ride to the train station and Amtraked back to Penn Station, where Dorothy and her son Andre picked me up and drove me out to Staten Island to eat and rest up a few hours before leaving for Newark Airport at 5:00 am to fly to New Orleans.
We went to the house on Staten Island where Dorothy spent her entire married life and brought up her four sons. Dorothy and the boys are closing up their lives at the house now and preparing to sell it this fall. She has purchased a small cabin on the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania, about two hours from New York City, that we will soon be able to call home in the USA, and once the house on Staten Island is sold (very soon now!) she intends to join me in Amsterdam and get us a place of our own. Yes!
We rolled out to the airport in the middle of the night and I caught the 7:05 am plane for New Orleans. David Kunian was kind enough to pick me up at Louis Armstrong International Airport and drive me into town to my lodgings with Tom Morgan & Hild Creed on Elysian Fields to begin four days of sheer terror trying to help out my poor little daughter Celia.
