Poetry Picnic with Bernadette Mayer
Entry 6 of 9 | show all | print this entry |
(Niewemarkt, October 14, 2006)-We got to Bernadette Mayer's place outside of East Nassau, NY in the middle of the night and went right to sleep. The next morning we woke up to a house full of people, plenty good food cooking on the stove, and a beautiful rural environment surrounding us. Everyone gathered in the back yard and consumed enough food and drink to become fully sated and then got ready for the poetry reading, which took place inside. The only low point was when Bernadette's dog attacked my leg without warning and ripped up my favorite pair of trousers. It was great hanging with Dave Brinks and Arturo Pfister just as if we were lounging at Dave's incredible stronghold in the French Quarters, the Gold Mine Saloon. After a full and productive day of poetry and relaxation, we climbed back into Arturo's little car and steamed back to his place in Stamford, CT for the night.
