(The Dolphins, June 20)-It's Tuesday afternoon and I've got one more day and a get-up (as we used to say under incarceration) before flying back to the States to begin my summer work there. My first three months here were terrific, but the last three weeks have been a gruesome stretch to be negotiated without funds or resources except one's own battered wits and the life-saving contributions of friends like Larry Hayden, Super Dude, the staff of Cafe La Bettola and KeyPoint Laundry, the management of the 420 Cafe and the brilliant owners and staff of The Dolphins who have given me my home here this spring.
While it started off with a great bang, my Spring Fund Drive turned into a big dud and my readers and listeners left me to fend strictly for myself. It wasn't nothing nice, like they say in the 6th Ward, but it's almost over now and soon I'll begin paying my own way across the USA as the Hardest Working Poet in Show Business. Think about it, though: When a friend writes or calls to say he or she desperately needs a little money to keep going, for godsake have a heart and send them a few bucks.
It's not like we're asking for a fortune. I've been squeaking along for three weeks on about 20-25 bucks a day, realized through loans from my pals and timely product sales in the coffeeshops, so what is that? 400 or 500 euros in all? I'm living in a world where I've given and given of my creative energies and time and effort for almost 50 years as a poet, writer, music and events producer and community broadcaster, but I don't know where dinner is coming from. They're paying people unspeakable millions of dollars to play professional (or college) sports and make horrible recordings and performances, but my work isn't worth enough to buy me dinner.
This is some sick shit. One tries and tries to ignore the context of modern life and simply keep on with the work, but goddammit this is discouraging. Well, soon I'll be seeing and talking to and getting high and making music with my friends all across America, and that'll bring my spirits back up. That, and the little bit of money they pay me to do what I do. I know, I know, what am I beefing about, nobody forced me to do this, I chose this path in life against all advice and now I'm reaping the bitter rewards. But it sure is some sick shit.

JOHN SINCLAIR SHOW 90 Legalize! Parade, Amsterdam Saturday, June 10, 2006 @ 8:00-9:00 pm [20-0619]
Henk Botwinik and I climbed on board the lead wagon in the Legalize! Parade 2006 while the crowd gathered on Dam Square to wait for the show to roll. We set up our broadcast table in the back corner and got ready to start our show when the entertainment started and drowned us out completely. So we spun records while the parade rolled west toward the Sloterdijk, and when we pulled up to park there was Doc Rosen standing by the back gate, so we finally got our Dr Dr Doc interview and everything turned out okay. The recorded music wasn't identified but featured Professor Longhair at the front and back, plus Big Chief Smiley Ricks, Kermit Ruffins, the Black Eagles, the Forgotten Souls Brass Band, James Andrews, Eluard & Co., the Flaming Arrows, and the Pin Stripe Brass Band, all direct from New Orleans.

JOHN SINCLAIR SHOW #91 Easter Hill Studios, Amsterdam Zuid-Oost Tuesday, May 23, 2006 @ 10:15 - 11:15 pm [20-0618]
Returning to action after a period of convalescence from surgery and a long winter's work in the mountains of Colorado, our Executive Producer, Dr. Larry Hayden, pulled together tonight's show from the most disparate of elements: New Orleans guitarist/producer Clay Windham and his Easter Hill Studios in Amsterdam Zuid-Oost, blues harp man Harmonica George, expatriate cello star Ilene Spain, Dutch blues bandleader/guitarist Little Steve van der Nat, Amsterdam bluesmen Danny deVijlder on guitar, Dan Joyce on bass and the Heavyweight Champion of the Drums, Jack Dempsey, plus Cajun vocalist and harmonica star Roy Lindsay and your host on text and vocals. We did an all-live program of music except for two cuts from the forthcoming Harmonica George CD, and Will Dawson captured the whole thing on multi-track digital. Clay Windham put the remix on it, and now it's Radio Show #91.

From : Joe Bryak Sent : Sunday, June 18, 2006 12:53 PM sending computers to Bolivian hospital network ? Loaded 500 computers, monitors, etc. to ship to Bolivia. Amazing how the group scrounged em up, got donations, checked em out, repaired em, etc. (I just drove forklift.) The work of over a year. The brainpower in this group! But that ain't the key. What did it was a clear vision motivated by a focused study on what needed to be done to complete the task, all driven by just plain good will. They did it on Saturdays, living their regular workaday lives during week, keeping marriages and social lives going. It's not either/or, as one guy said, recounting his romantic adventures in the 60s, side by side with solid political work, with dancing and drinking and studying and everything else thrown in. Do it all, he said: there's time.
