Arrived at Spanish School on Sunday afternoon, attended the welcome meeting and then got unpacked. There were about 30 new students that started this week, quite a few Dutch, some Americans, a couple of English. Thankfully there is a good proportion of 30-somethings here - I worried I would be the grandma of a group of college leavers!
The school is fantastic! Just off the main square, Plaza de Armas, it´s close to everything. The building is lovely; at the top of a steep walk and with lots of steps it literally leaves you breathless at this altitude! My room is part of a flat a couple of doors down from the school. I have a room to myself (excellent!) with a hot water bathroom, kitchen and huge living room. I share the flat with two other girls, Lynette and Natalie. The only downside at the moment is that as Cusco is in the midst of a water shortage there is no water between 10am and 6pm. But I´m at school then anyways...
This week I have morning classes for four hours, two hours of vocab, two hours of verbs (yuck). We have homework, we are supposed to study, but I haven´t done mine yet (well, I am on holiday.) My Spanish is less than zero but already I´m getting better. I´m really enjoying stretching my brain - it´s been so long since I did something challenging (yes, my job was that dull.) As well as classes the school also offers other activities: salsa class, cooking, talks, movie nights etc - all included too! Additional extras include white water rafting, paragliding and trips to Machu Pichu (been there, done that.) I´ve decided to extend my stay here, so now I´ll be staying for a month. There still isn´t a plan beyond that so need to start thinking about what to do next. But it´s great to meet so many people doing the same thing as me - it seems everyone here quit their jobs to come - and get tips on places to go and things to look out for in SA.
As I´ll be doing pretty much the same thing until the end of September I´m not sure how exciting this blog is going to get - but who knows what could happen next? Stay tuned!

All sounds brilliant! - Am I allowed to be jealous?

All going well then
Sounds like you've been there ages, you've got the friends, the lingo and all the sexy dancing going on. Sounds fab.
You may have a water shortage, but we've got water overload over here, so you've successfully escaped the British summer! Although this weekend looks to be nice, might go out shopping for kitchen appliances - exciting - not.
The bumps growing well. I just had a mars bar and its all kicking off down there. The sugur injection must have started the little one off!
Glad to hear you have been able to catch up with some old friends.
Hasta luego! Al x
