I visited Petroglyph National Monument which is within the city limits. I opted for the shorter hikes through the lava rock formations where the Ancestral Puebloan Indians carved various spiritual and life images. The rocks have a natural patina that makes for a good canvas. When scratched, the lighter rock color shows through. To see some of the more elaborate carvings, you need to make it out to the more remote sections of the park. The Spanish showed up in the 1500's and added some of their own art.
The old Johnny Quest Mobile is having some fuel system issues, so I'm having the gang at Anton's Auto Haus take a look and also put a fresh set of brakes on the ole' girl. All this mountain travel really burns up the pads. As soon as that's done, I'll head up the Turquoise Trail to Santa Fe and take in the sights there. I found out that the Taos Pueblo has been closed for ceremonial purposes for over a month, so I won't be making the trek up there. : (
