I was planning on writing today about the Tsunami and a 5 star beach resort I stayed at a few nights ago but I had a last minute change of plans. On my way to the Internet cafe this morning I was almost moved to tears by the hairless gnomes that wonder the streets of Bangkok. Boys and girls I am talking about Buddhist monks. These little shirtless shoeless creatures are everywhere! Until I came to Thailand I always thought that I was "my favorite hairless creature of the world!" Not any more my friends! I think I might be developing a man-crush on these little guys? Who knows I might have even found my calling in life! I will now waste the next 4 minutes of your life comparing myself to a "hairless monk." Enjoy!

Monk facts:
Every Thai male is expected to become a monk for a short period in his life (Nomad - God knows I have a little free time. I spend most of my day coming up with this nonsense!)

They are required to shave off all their body hair (Nomad - Got that covered.)

For some reason they do not wear shoes? (Nomad - Neither do I! I think shoes are for people who work in offices.)

The very back seat of the bus is reserved for monks (Nomad - When I was in elementary school I used to get in fights for the back seat of the bus!!)

Women aren't allowed to touch or sit next to a monk or his belongings (Nomad - This works great for me since "birds" usually do not sit next to me anyway. Also I do not like people touching my stuff.)

The Definiton of Buddhism
Buddhism - Founded on the principles of nonviolence and creating good karma in life by making a conscious effort to do good and become a better person, especially inwardly.

Interesting fact about Thailand:
95% of Thai people practice Buddhism.
Thailand is 543 years ahead of the West at least according to their calendar which measures from the beginning of the Buddhist Era(543 BC) not the birth of Christ.

Randomly interesting pointless fact:
The French tickler was invented by a Tibetan monk (I got this off the Internet?)

I love these little creatures so much that I have been thinking about taking one home with me! I will leave you today with the top 5 reasons I think that an Asian (not necessarily a monk) would make a nice "house companion!"

Top 5 reasons why an Asian would make a good pet:
1. They are much more entertaining than a dog!
2. They are relatively inexpensive (a plate of fried rice keeps them going the better part of a day)
3. They are compact in size.
4. "They love you LONG time!"
5. Two Words: Kung Fu

And all the people say..........AMEN! -Johnny Nomad
