Here goes another one...
Today we caught the train from Siena to Lucca. We had an hour stopoff in Empoli as we had to change trains. We decided to stop in Pisa which is on the way to check out the tower, a must-do in Italy! As luck would have it, we got one stop from Pisa and the train broke down so we had to wait for an hour <groan> We finally got there and walked for about 20 mins to the tower and church with the heavy packs. Took the obligatory photos pushing over the tower (i'm sure it was hilarious the first time someone did it) and trekked back to the station.
Onwards and upwards to Lucca. Yet another medieval town in the mountains but this is my favourite yet. The city's fortified wall is completely intact and has a walking/bike track around it. We are goin to hire bikes tomorrow to pedal around for a while. It's only a small town but very peaceful and picturesque. We plan to stay here tomorrow night too.
