I headed to Lima to visit my old flatmate Alfredo´s family. I´d read it was a bit dangerous so I didn´t really know what to expect and on the way in on the bus the city looks a bit foggy so I couldn´t really see a whole lot. I went to Miraflores which is a bit of a touristy place and got a hostel there. After a month of cultivating my ginger beard I decided it was time for the chop so I spent most of the evening degrizzling myself and got a haircut too so I´m now back to normal...a (6:00) shadow of my former self.
The next day I called over to Alfredo´s house and met most of his family who were really friendly so I spent most of the day with them. The next day I had a big breakfast in Alfredo´s house and then his sister-in-law Liliana took me to the center of the city and gave me the grand tour. We saw most of the sights and then she said I´d have to try Ceviche which is a peruvian dish of raw fish marinated for a few minutes with lime, garlic and chilli. We went to a few restaurants and found one that Liliana thought looked good and we went in and she talked to the girl serving and then the chef came out and Liliana said she wanted to see the fish to make sure it was fresh so the chef brought it out and it looked good and 5 minutes later it was on my plate. 10 minutes later it was all in my belly...it´s great stuff, a bit like sashimi. Then in the evening, Alfredo´s family all took me out for a big meal of peruvian food which was good craic: roast chicken, cow hearts and potatoes all washed down with rounds and rounds of pisco sours.
